KitKat Review: オトナの甘さ

The latest KitKat Adventure! Kit Kat オトナの甘さ. (Otona no Amasa, Adult Sweetness) Yup, it's another KitKat geared towards adults. From what I can tell, this may have come before the Matcha adult one, and is probably the original "Adult KitKat." Or whatever.

Like the other set, this package has 3 individually wrapped mini bars inside.

Mmm.... delicious. As far as I can tell, this is a dark chocolate KitKat bar. Other than that, I don't notice anything special. I assume that it's for "adults" because it's dark chocolate, since most children like sweeter chocolate.

It was good. Nothing special at all really, unless you're in the mood for dark chocolate.

A Day of White

Pretty much everyone knows about Valentine's day. You give/get chocolate or flowers, cards or stuffed animals, etc. In Japan, they celebrate Valentine's day by girls giving the boys they like chocolate, as well as "Giri Choco" (obligatory chocolate) which is chocolate you give to male co-workers, friends, family in a not romantic way. Receiving chocolate that is not giri choco is a big deal for boys, especially in the middle school/high school age group. Also, chocolate is the deal. If it's a long established couple maybe the girl will get her man chocolate AND a present, but mostly, it's all about the chocolate. If the chocolate is homemade, even better. Really fancy homemade and decorated chocolate cakes are what high school boys dream of receiving, (among other unmentionable things I'm sure... tsk tsk.)

If you don't know anything about Japan, you might now be thinking "Hey, wait a minute. What about the gifts for the girls? Where are the flowers and the jewelry and love for her? Well, that is where White Day comes in. White Day is March 14th, exactly 1 month after valentines day. Boys are supposed to give a present to their girl in return for their v-day chocolate. It started back in the day with consumerism, a marshmallow company marketed it's products as ideal return gifts since girls gave chocolate. Nowadays, white chocolate and jewelry are pretty common as white day gifts. I'm pretty sure a girl is happy that you got her a gift, no matter what it is.

For V-day, Heather and I made chocolate and handed it out to the teachers at our High School. Since we don't go there on Wednesdays, we got our white day presents today. So exciting!! I didn't think I was going to get any at all! Check out what I got!

Pretty sweet, right? I especially enjoyed the note Inoue-sensei left on the chocolate: "Thank you for your tenderness" Cute, right? He speaks very little English. I wonder what Japanese word he looked up that told him to write tenderness. Adorable.

What do you think about White Day? Is it a cool idea, or would you rather swap presents at the same time a la American Valentines Day?

yup, pretty much

For all you lovely people out there wondering what my students are like, this video is pretty dead on. Please excuse the curse word in the title, it's an internet thang, ya know?

I think this video could only be more accurate if there was more high pitched screaming and squealing, and some crying. These are things that the girls at my high school do a lot. I mean A LOT! :)

Yup.
