Sheep Sheep

After panicked packing and a tearful goodbye with Mumsy at the airport, I flew to Portland to spend some time with Kara and Matt before continuing on to Japan. Technically I flew to Chicago, switched planes and flew to Kansas City, Missouri, stayed on the plane and continued to Portland. They picked me up at the airport, and I had a lovely few days that included lots of yummy food, a doughnut shaped like a voodoo doll, a UofM alumni party, yoga in the park, a rather large tree stump, a sheep rug, sims 3, and a goonies mountain. See pictures!

Kara woke up crazy early to take me to the airport at 4:00am. I then got on a tiny plane at 6am to San Francisco, where a small boy proceeded to cry and scream non-stop when his mum put his seat belt on him. Also, had last row of seats so I couldn't recline. Not a pleasant 1.5 hours. After landing, I found my gate for my next flight and bought some girly magazines to share with my classes in Japan. Sat around the airport for 3-4 hours and then boarded my plane to Narita airport in Tokyo, Japan. Got served lunch twice and some snacks, watched some old TV shows and Just Go With It, slept through Jane Eyre, and after a 9 hour plane ride, landed in Japan where it was magically the next day already. Got hustled through customs and re-checked my baggage and then sat around waiting for security to be open. Security for domestic flights in Japan have hours. Got through security (I got to keep my shoes on!) and sat around waiting for my flight to Hiroshima. The plane was tiny, about 60 seats, so we walked out of the terminal and got on a bus, which drove us out to our itty bitty plane. I sat next to a lovely Japanese woman who complimented me on my Japanese in Japanese (yay!) and promptly fell asleep. It was raining in Hiroshima so they said that our flight may be redirected to Osaka, but luckily, we landed in Hiroshima. From Hiroshima Airport, I got a taxi to Hiroshima Station, where I met Interac people. They got me on a train to wherever I am now, 40 minute train ride. I got checked into my little room and met some fellow trainees. Finally crashed around midnight, only to wake up every hour or so. Evil jet lag.

Off on a Journey of Mystic Proportions

I, little Kaitlyn of Canton, MI, have been accepted as an ALT for Interac. I'll be leaving soon for Matsue, Shimane, Japan. Huzzah! Armed with a camera, my trusty pigmy giraffe Jorgie, and absolutely no writing/blogging skills whatsoever, I shall journey to the land of the rising sun, and attempt to fill interested parties in on what's going down in this little blog.

Prepare to be amazed. or something.
